Because I couldn't find any lists of Steampunk-themed activities anywhere, and the communities seem to be dead or slowly dying, I figured I may as well put one together myself in case anyone ever wants it. It's just weird to me that that's the case, seeing as how Steampunk actually lends itself really well to stealth-LARPing. Oh well.

Most of these would need to be adjusted or not engaged in while this Pandemic is still ongoing, but many can still be done solo or over the internet.

List of Steampunk Activities

You'll probably want to get together with other steampunk enthusiasts at some point (please be safe and keep social distancing in mind during the Pandemic), so some exclusively social activities would be:
  • Mostly-In-Character Brunch at a restaurant or cafe
  • Luncheon or picnic in the park
  • Afternoon Tea hosted at home
  • Evening Cocktails on the patio
  • Stargazing and Storytelling
  • Chess Tournament
  • Blackjack, Backgammon, or Poker Night
  • Play a Steampunk-themed boardgame together

An important aspect of steampunk is the adventure, so some activities for that would be:
  • Going on an Archaeological Expedition (assist with a dig)
  • Going to a Renaissance Faire - As a Time-traveler! (You could keep an in-character journal and write about your experience through different eyes)
  • Going Foraging (great group activity, especially in costume and semi-in-character)
  • Going on a Hike (another great group activity, especially in costume and semi-in-character)
  • Going Caving (make sure to look up the laws and regulations in your area, follow safety guidelines, and don't mess up delicate ecosystems)
  • Going on a Treasure Hunt in a large backyard or your local park

Steampunk is all about retro-futurism and a love of the sciences and nature, so some activities to "expand your mind" along these lines would be:
  • Visiting an Observatory
  • Visiting a Science Museum
  • Visiting an Exhibition of the Natural Sciences
  • Visiting a Natural History Museum
  • Visiting an Art Museum
  • Taking a Tour of Natural Caverns, a Ghost Town, or Ancient Ruins
  • Visiting a Winery or Brewery (fermentation and yeast are biotechnologies)
  • Attending a Lecture on Chemistry, Biology, Geology, or on the history of another culture from that culture's own perspective (check your local university, they will often have rotating lectures open to the public, some may be available online)
  • Watching a Documentary on the above topics

A large part of the steampunk aesthetic is practicality and making things, so some activities along these lines would be:
  • Taking a Practical Mechanics Class (learn some car or appliance repairs!)
  • Taking a Robotics Class (it may use electricity instead of steam, but can be approached with the steampunk aesthetic in mind)
  • Taking a Woodworking Class
  • Taking a Jewelry-Making Class
  • Taking a Pottery or Ceramics Class
  • Taking a Sewing Class or starting/working on a sewing project
  • Taking an Embroidery Class or working by yourself with books and Youtube
  • Taking a Cooking Class, especially for older recipes or fussy dishes like souffle
  • Cooking and Baking in general, look for Victorian cookbooks but also international ones!
  • Working in the Garden

Wealthier people of the period were often (or at least saw themselves as) Patrons of the Arts, so some activities following these lines would be:
  • Going to the Theatre (includes Shakespeare in the Park, which is free)
  • Attending an Opera
  • Attending a Ballet (I know several ballet productions have been fully uploaded to youtube, so that's another way to "attend")
  • Attending a production by Pilobolus Dance Company
  • Going to an Art Gallery Opening (Free! Though you may be tempted to make a purchase...)
